The Sanctuary of Monte Sant’Angelo: eat, pray and…. enjoy your stay!

If you ever get tired of lying in the sunshine and enjoying the beautiful beaches, the Sanctuary of Monte Sant’Angelo is a great opportunity to get your fill of culture and maybe purify your soul.

Built around 490 A.D in a natural cave, it’s the oldest shrine dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel in Western Europe. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2011, every year this ancient shrine attracts millions of tourists and believers looking for redemption from their sins but also for some great spots to enjoy some local specialties.

All around lies the Gargano’s typical countryside covered in lush Mediterranean pine trees and olive groves. However, over the years a fascinating and flourishing town grew up around the shrine, offering a variety of attractions to discover while wandering around the alleys.
